In the foreground, matt white glaze,

with a touch of streaky green
          on stoneware.

                 Teapot 52.
                 Floating blue over
                 white slip over
The spout torked quite a bit.
                 Not noticeable
                 if the opening was round
                 but quite noticeable
                 when it isn't.

Teapot 51. Transparent over dark blue underglaze.
             Not fond of this.
             Karen asked why.
             Hard to articulate
             I think it's because
the lines aren't as sharp as I'd like them to be.
             Not perfect.
             But as Jaleh said,
             if you want perfect,
             go to Kmart.
Since Karen liked it so much,
             I gave it to her.
She texted, "Thanks for my new teapot.
             It works really well."
She added a smiley face emoticon
             and 2 thumbs up.

              Pink rose. watercolor.5.12.13.
Teapot 49. Avocado, I forget the name of the other green
and black underglazes under transparent on white stoneware.
The greens aren't green unfortunately. One more to go.

Teapot 48, two views. Something different: a new glaze —
              Courtney's Cranberry, Shannon's lid technique and Julie's
decorative touch. It's pretty nice, on earthenware. Spout's way
              too big though.

Saturday, February 22, 2014

              Teapots 45-47.
Top, Seaworld on stoneware. 2 out of 6 spout holes clogged.
Center, Shino and Seaworld on stoneware. 2-1/2 out of 6
              spout holes clogged.
Bottom, Glossy White with brushed Cobalt wash on earthenware.
All 6 spout holes unclogged. Glossy White on stoneware is very
well-behaved. The pot itself is heavier than I'd like though.

Teapot 44. Fall Creek Shino with Seaworld; glazes overlap
at center. Stoneware. OK, I like it very much, but the glaze
on the handle isn't even. But that's a small flaw, and, after all,
             it's handmade. . . Nanmade.

Thursday, January 30, 2014

Teapots 42 and 43. The top one is sponged cobalt wash over
Randy's Yellow, white clay. I was attempting to imitate
something I saw in a magazine. Their cobalt was much darker.
Teapot 43 is Seaworld on white clay. It looked quite successful
until I discovered a crack on the lid. It's also very heavy.
I still like it despite the flaws. The next thing I need to work on
is cleaning up the spout holes: they're often clogged or ragged.
But it's really hard to squeeze your hand inside to clean it.
And the spouts could still stand to be higher.
